What is your most amazing skill? Being good at basketball? Doing well in your studies? Jeremy Rice, 14, probably beats us all. His skill is saving lives. He saved 17 people all by himself!

Rice took the school Bus as usual on Oct 11. On the way, he noticed that the bus driver reached down to the bin next to his seat. When the driver tried to get back in his seat, he suddenly fell down and couldn’t move any more. But the bus was still moving!

Rice left his seat eight rows back, quickly ran past the other 16 students and held the wheel “I stood up and looked around and nobody else was moving,” he said. “Then I saw a blue car coming right at us and I ran.”

“I really wasn’t thinking at all,” he said. “I just acted.”

The boy, standing over the wheel, turned left. The bus driver, who could still talk, gave instructions(说明). He quickly told Rice how to drive and asked him to pull a small yellow knob (把手) to stop the bus. After the bus finally stopped, Rice felt so tired. His ear and shoulder started to ache.

“This is kind of exciting,” said Keith King, a school teacher. “We ended up with a real happy story today.”“This school is about giving kids the chance to improve abilities(能力). And that’s what Jeremy did today. It’s excited to see kids in his school do great things,” he said.
