阅读材料,然后从各小题所给的四个选项中选出最佳选项。

A young student was walking in the desert and happened to find some clear water. He filled his leather canteen (皮革水壶) so he could bring some back to his teacher. After a four-day journey he presented the water to his teacher. The teacher took a long drink, smiled warmly and thanked his student for the water. The young student returned to his village with a happy heart.

Later, the teacher let another student taste the water. He spat it out and said it was awful. It was no longer fresh because it was in the old leather canteen for such a long time. The student asked the teacher, “Master, the water is terrible. Why did you pretend (假装) to like it?” The teacher replied, “You only tasted the water. I tasted the gift. The water was an act of loving-kindness and nothing could be sweeter.”

Now we understand this lesson best when we receive gifts of love from others. Whether it’s a broken cup or a gold watch, the natural and proper response (反应) is appreciation and expressed thankfulness because we love the idea within the gift.

Gratitude (感恩) doesn’t always come naturally. Unfortunately, many people value only the thing given, rather than the feeling in it. We should remind ourselves and teach our children about the beauty of feelings and expressions of gratitude. After all, gifts from the heart are real gifts.
